A couple of days ago, IFC Films sent me a screener to CLEAN and I finally had the time to watch it yesterday.
CLEAN is a passion project for Academy-award-winner actor Adrien Brody. (known for his role in “The Pianist”. He also produced, co-wrote the screenplay and composed the score . And he also starts in the popular HBO-Max show “Succession” , which honestly wasn’t my cup of tea but I really liked his performance… excuse me, I meant I was impressed by his performance! This movie was developed by Brody’s production company “Fable House”. This movie was directed by Paul Solet. It starts Adrien Brody, Richie Merritt, Glenn Fleshler, Daniela DuPont and Michelle Wilson.
Onto the premise: Tormented by a past life, garbage man Clean (Adrien Brody) attempts a life of quiet redemption. But when his good intentions mark him a target of local crime boss (Glenn Fleshler), Clean is forced to reconcile with the violence of his past.
Not to spoil anything but I still get goosebumps from this movie like when I am thinking about certain scenes, in it like for example there was this one scene in the second half of the movie, which was VERY gore and violent but it was very rewarding to see Adrien Brody to see him confront the killers of a certain person in his life and what he did to that person phew .. I don’t have any words to describe it, let alone to fully process it. However there was this one particular scene, which brought tears into my eyes because it was too close home to me. But beautifully shot.
The villain in this movie couldn’t be less intimidating to me. He was hilarious to me but his son, played by Richie Merritt) was probably one of my favorite characters in this movie, besides Adrien Brody of course.
The ending was beautiful and sad but beautifully shot as well and I wasn’t expecting it to be honest.
CLEAN was and will be a movie, which will crave itself into your mind for a long time and therefore it is worth watching it, even if you are not a fan of this genre or any of its actors. it’s soundtrack was SO good and I really hope that Adrien Brody will release its soundtrack onto streaming platforms soon. Even it’s kinda very similar to 2021’s NOBODY movie starring Rob Odenkirk yet SO different at the same time. I really liked it. I’ve not watched anything like this movie before in my life.
