Today I watched the new HULU- Thriller/Horror movie “No Exit. This movie starrs Havana Rose Liu, Danny Ramirez, David RysdahI, Dale Dickey and Mila Harris, just to name a few. This movie was rated R and in my option it was rightfully done so. I’ll go into that shortly. I was very excited to watch this movie because of its trailer, which I had seen earlier this month or so. This movie has runtime of 98 minutes. It was directed by Damien Power. This movie is a movie adaptation of the “No Exit” novel by Taylor Adams, which was released in 2017. It was released on February 25th 2022 on Hulu. I will try my best to not spoiler it for you guys.
On the premise: During a blizzard and stranded at an isolated highway rest stop in the mountains, a college student discovers a kidnapped child hidden in a car belonging to one of the people inside.
A recovering drug addict named Derby Thorne portrayed by Havana Liu , is traveling by car to her sick mother, who is in hospital. On the highway, in Salt Lake City, her car is stopped by a police officer, who tells her that there will be a storm happening later on and he doesn’t want her to continue driving to her mom after he leaves her. Therefore he suggests that she stays the night at a visitors center with four other strangers. When she arrives at the center after going outside in search for a phone signal, she finds a car, which belongs to one of the people in the visitors center, in it she finds a little girl named Jay (Mila Harris), who was kidnapped, tied up in the back of a van. She has to find a way to save the girl but she doesn’t know who to trust in the visitor center. The only people in the center are Lars, Ash, Derby and married couple Ed and Sandi.
Playing a round of the card game “Bullshit”, Derby uses her knowledge of the van’s license plate to question the people at the visitor center and she finds out who the kidnapper is….
I honestly wasn’t expecting some twists and turns in this movie! It left me in shock once everything was revealed. Onto it being rated R, this is going to be very difficult to say it without spoilers but it was rightfully done because there is a lot of brutality and blood and very, very, very uncomfortable to watch scenes, those scenes actually gave me goosebumps. The fact that this movie was rated R was very refreshing to see, since it’s not so very common to see this much brutality and dare I say gore in this genre.
In my opinion this movie was worth a watch because of its uniqueness and of its dark setting and certain camera angles and an very intense climax and it’s impressive cast, especially Havana Liu und Mila Harris… it’s flashbacks and it’s jump scares to suit the Horror genre mention above. I really liked the ending even tho it was kinda slow-paced in comparison to the fast-pacedness of the movie.
If you like genre movies, you will like this one.
