Is “Desperate Hour” worth a watch?

A couple of days ago, Indie.tv sent ne a Screenser to this movie. I was very excited to watch this movie because of its trailer, which I had seen earlier this month or so. This movie was directed by Phillip Noyce (“The Quiet American,” “Rabbit-Proof Fence”). It also starrs Naomi Watts, Colton Gobbo, Andrew Chown, Sierra Maltby and Josh Bowman, just to name a few. This movie has runtime of 1h and 24 minutes.

This film was shot in the North Bay area of Ontario. This thriller was released on February 25 2022 theatrically.

Onto the premise: A mother desperately races against time to save her child as authorities place her small town on lockdown…..

Watching this movie will remind you of one of those “Lockdown movies” and how pitiful those were/are. Despite its pros….

Like given the frequency of the tragedy of school shootings, it’s debatable whether this topic should be considered for a basis for a movie, let alone a pg-13 rated Thriller. Even if it’s main focus is on the emotional side of those shootings.

Naomi Watts plays Amy, a widowed single parent, who lost her husband in a car crash. It’s anniversary has come up so she loses sleep over those haunting visions. She has a teenage son, named analog, played by Colton Gobbo and a young daughter Emily, played by Sierra Maltby. She struggles to wake her son up and takes her daughter Emily on to the school bus. So, she heads out into the woods for a jog.

This is where I’ve struggled with this movie, despite my excitement for it…! Because what pretty much happens, is so unbelievably executed that I had to really motivate myself to push myself to finish watching it, in hopes that it’d get better… but it didn’t…! I was very disappointed with this one….

Onto what I liked Naomi Watts performance to be honest. She gave everything into her role.

Onto the movies cons: I didn’t like it how certain interactions of Naomi Watts’ character Amy, with law enforcement was rather ludicrous than believable….

I know me, voicing my opinion on a such a touchy subject, might cross the line for some of you but, exploitative nature and gimmicky elements in this movie, tell another story….

The ending was very absurd because of the well-known social media crying antics of “this has to stop” and so on and forth…

This movies leaves you with a message s that school shootings are horrible and terrifying. I’m sure we’ve already heard and known that before watching run Naomi Watts for 80 minutes….
