A couple of days ago, I watched “Asking For It” directed by Eamon O’Rourke. It’s starring Vanessa Hudgens, Ezra Miller, Kiersey Clemons, Alexandra Shipp, just to name a few. It has a runtime of 1h and 37 minutes.
It was released on March 4th 2022. I was very excited to watch this movie after watching its trailer sometime in January or so. it is rated R for its disturbing and violent and uncomfortable to watch scenes….
Onto the premise: After a small town waitress is sexually assaulted after a date with her old friend she befriends a mysterious stranger who introducers her to an all femme gang.
This movie was non-stop interesting from its start to it’s finish. I guess the style might not be everyone’s cup of tea. And some parts of it were a little bit cringe but it’s cinematography was outstanding and direction incredibly original without being jarring or taking you out of the moment. In my opinion the story did a great job of creating the evil archetypes and the young female dynasty was so much fun to watch! It’s not subtle. Don’t know why it got such bad reviews…!
Movie like these along with academy winning movie “Promising Young Women” are issuing us into a new age of film, which takes a stance against a many of the types of people who are prematurely leaving negative reviews on this movie. It’s empowering, relevant, original, and REALISTIC!!!
I like the fact that these movies are challenging the film industry by shining a light onto these topics and toxic masculinity by giving it opportunities to celebrate these woman and the work of the director is grounds for high praise!!!!
This movie is definitely worth a watch!
