Yesterday, I watched the new Amazon Prime, Thriller/Drama/Mystery “Deep Water”. This movie starrs Ben Affleck, Ana De Armas, Tracy Letts, Grace Jenkins, Lil Rel Howery and Dash Mihok. It was directed by Adrian Lyne. When I saw the trailer, I was very excited about this one because I like both actors(Affleck and Armas) and I also like Thrillers and Dramas. But i was also curious about this movie because of its premise…., which I will talk about shortly.. it has a runtime of 1h and 55 minutes. It was released on March 18th 2022. It has a runtime of an hour and 55 minutes.
Onto its premise: A well-to-do husband who allows his wife to have affairs in order to avoid a divorce becomes a prime suspect in the disappearance of her lovers.
Vic and Melinda Van Allen are a couple in the small town of Little Wesley. Their loveless marriage is held together only by a precarious arrangement whereby, in order to avoid the messiness of divorce, Melinda is allowed to take any number of lovers as long as she does not desert her family. Vic becomes fascinated with the unsolved murder of one of Melinda’s former lovers, Malcolm McRae, and, in order to successfully drive away her current fling, takes credit for the killing. When the real murderer is apprehended, Vic’s claims are interpreted by the community as dark jokes.
Ana de Armas did such a great job along with Ben Affleck. I was surprised to see that Nathan Jacobs from Euphoria aka Jacob Elordi was in this movie. I really liked his performance. I also liked Finn Wirtrock’s performance.
In my opinion this movie was a good movie therefore it was “worth a watch”.
I really liked the setting and coloring like the movie had a claustrophobic tone to it. I wasn’t expecting the ending like I liked it.
I also really liked how we got to see the motives of certain characters in this movie. And how selfish one can be.
I’m saying this without “spoilering” anything… I was shocked at how straightforward this movie was with its story. Like the audience is thrown right into the midst of one of Mirenda’s lovers being missing.
There were a few logic issues…. With a car and a bike…
My biggest problem with this movie is that it’s indecisiveness about being erotic or a thriller…. Another thing that bothered me was that it’s length it’s too long and too slow paced at times.
