Is Sonic The Hedgehog 2” worth a watch?

Earlier today, I watched the second installment of Sega’s “Sonic the Hedgehog”, starring Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey, Idris Elba, Tika Sumpter and Natasha Rothwell and Shermar Moore, just to name a few. This movie had a theatrical release on March 31st 2022. It has a runtime of 2h and 2m.

Onto its premise: When the manic Dr Robotnik returns to Earth with a new ally, Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic and his new

friend Tails is all that stands in their way. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands. Being directed by Jeff Fowler, and starring Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Ben Schwartz.

If you liked the first one, you will most likely like this one as well. It is better, bigger, with a good pace and some very funny lines and lovely characters such as my favorite from the video games “Tails”, he has always been my favorite one after sonic! This movie made me want to download the game onto my phone, which I did,, afterwards. It was a fan-feast for those, who grew up with the game and later the tv shows. There were so many moments and designs from the games, which made me feel very euphoric throughout the whole movie.

Jim Carrey, is fantastic in this movie. He sounded like the “Grinch” at one point and also he was very “Meme-able” in my opinion. There were some jokes for adults and some for children. The animations were good, especially the one of the islands and the homages to the game with the golden rings and golden sonic and especially Doctor Robotnic’s iconic robot from the games. I really liked Idris Elba as Knuckles in this movie, he was perfect for this role, as a contrast to the childish attitude of sonic, he needed a more mature person in his environment.

It had some relatable and beautiful messages and the mid-credit-scene was a must-see one! DO NOT MISS IT!

It feels so much more like a video game than the previous one. In my opinion, this movie was “worth a watch”.
