The eating has come to an end now! On May 6th 2022, the second installment of Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” was released, six years later than it’s first installment.
This movie is an Actuon/Sci-Fi/Horror/Adventure/Fanstasy/Comic movie. It has a runtime of 2h and 6 minutes. It starrs Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong and Xochiti Gomez. It was directed by Sam Raini aka the guy who directed all of the 2000s Spider-Man movies! It was written by Michael Waldron (Rick and Morty and Marvel’s Loki mini-series 2021).
Onto the premise: Dr. Stephen Strange casts a forbidden spell that opens the doorway to the multiverse, including alternate versions of himself, whose threat to humanity is too great for the combined forces of Strange, Wong, and Wanda Maximoff.
I watched Doctor Strange 2 a couple days ago. And oh my goodness, I’m still shook! Like especially from the cameos of certain MARVEL characters 🥺 it was even better than 2021’s “Spider-Man No Way Home!
It would highly recommend you to watch “WandaVision” and “What If” beforehand! But it was such a trip and yes CAN be very overwhelming at times and had its weaknesses but overall it was a great experience! It did left me in awe because I’m very deep into the material of marvel and spoiler alert: X-Men!
I loved it! Like I said I still can’t stop thinking about it! You won’t regret it. Sam Raimi did an amazing job by including some horror and gore elements so you will know what I’m talking about once you’ve watched it!
This was a text message to a friend of mine, which I sent after I watched the movie!
Now, let’s continue with the review!
The movie stars with us, the audience? Being thrown into a fight sequence with a certain monster, whom can be found in the Marvel comics! It features Doctor Strange, Wong and America Chavez, which is our main character in this movie. She shows up from an alternative reality asks for Doctor Strange’s help because she opened up petals whenever she is frightened by something, one time she was frightened so she opened a portal and accidentally put her moms, yes I said moms, I really that LGBTQIA+-representation from the filmmakers, by the way, into an alternative reality. Now she asks Stranger for help to find her parents by traveling with him within the multiverse. I really liked that long, very overwhelming, yet beautifully edited traveling sequence. At one point we saw a reality, where both characters were made out of paint which was very beautiful, if you ask me.
Oh and America can’t control her power YET and in the midst of it, we’ve got Wanda, we’ll Scarlet Witch, who wants to get America and use her power because she misses her Children with Vision. This is the second doctor Strange that America has asked for help but he betrayed her, on earth 818, so she is understandably mistrusting our Doctor Strange, from the earth 616 aka the one from Spider-Man No Way Home.
For reasons mentioned above Strsnge goes to Wanda for help but she becomes Scarlet Witch and does control demons from an alternative reality, where she gets into the head of her version with her children with Vision so she now controls her and that version of her is also after America and Strange, it’s very confusing I know but bear with me!
I don’t want to spoil this movie because I want you guys to make those experiences on y’all’s own therefore let’s jump onto what I really liked about this movie: I really liked the visuals and camera angles and of course Sam Raimi’s signature handwriting like those horror and gore moments, just wow! I really liked a certain combat fight scene with our Doctor Strange on earth 818, with Chiwetel Ejiofol. I also liked that this Doctor Strange used more comic book references and characters, hint hint, Illuminati and X-Men and Fantastic 4. One particular cameo made me scream and shed tears out of excitement! There were a few funny jokes including America not knowing who Spider-Man was and her thinking that Spider-Man would shoot webs out his butt, while Wong and Strange were explaining her everything.
In my opinion this movie will raise the standards of girls because of Strange’s one like about his love for Christen… and this movie is also very “MEMeblr”.
The shining star in this one was definitely Eliminated Olsen. Wow, her performance as both characters, was superb!
Benedict Cumberbatch really did showcase his versatility by portraying many many versions of Doctor Strange, one particular was too good to watch, I was very happy to see some “What If” characters in this movie. The one thing I really did not like was the too fast paced ness and that some VFXs weren’t good to look at along with some of the plot stuff. I really did not like the lack of Multiverse in this movie along with its feeling of being too rushed , which I do understand due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
It was really nice to see some Endgame and Ultran references especially when our Strange met with the Illuminati on earth 818.
Overall this movie was “worth a watch”! I’m planning on re-watching it later today!
