A couple of days ago, “Idee films” sent me a screener link to their latest Drama/Horror/Thriller, “Watcher”. This movie will be released on June 3rd 2022. It has a runtime of 1h and 31 minutes and it is rated R for its sexual scenes, language, bloody gore, violence and brutality. It was directed by Chloe Okuno. It was written by Zack Ford (2005’s “Love”) and Chloe Okuno.
The movie starrs Maika Monroe (2016’s “Independence Day”), Karl Glusman (Husband to Zoe Kravitz), Bum Gorman (2020s “Enola Holmes”), Madalina Anea (2021s “The Protege”) , just to name a few.
Onto the premise: As a serial killer stalks the city, Julia – a young actress who just moved to town with her boyfriend – notices a mysterious stranger watching her from across the street.
One word to describe this movie…. It was intense but enjoyable. The acting was superb! Especially Maika Monroe’s.
Some of sequences were really anxiety inducing that me as a person, whom is struggling with anxiety, had to pause the movie to catch a breather! Even if only Monroe would be walking around, the atmosphere was tense.
Nevertheless, my only problem with this movie was its ending… even though it was building towards a satisfying ending of the movie, it just wasn’t what I was expecting! Felt rushed to an extent. Like I, personally wanted more of the build up!
Also there were some awkward and uncomfortable dialogues but that’s just the case for me.
Overall, I really liked the psychological stuff in this movie, just as I thought…. _….___ was in ___ head. I really liked the scoring and and the overall atmosphere and certain shots were too smooth….!
In my opinion, this movie was “Worth a Watch” and I would highly recommend it to anyone!
