When it was announced that rapper and actor Machine Gun Kelly, real name, Colson Baker, would be making his directorial debut along with his best friend and musician Mod Sun, real name, Derek Smith, I was really excited because I am huge fan of both of them. Therefore, that was the first thing I did after waking up today. This movie was released on May 20th 2022 in the US in selected theaters and on demand. Like ITunes. It has a runtime of 1h and 33 minutes.
This movie is a “Stoner” Comedy starring Colson Baker, Derek Smith, Dove Cameron, Pete Davidson, Megan Fox and musician GaTa, Rapper Snoop Dog, just to name a few. This movie was rated R for drug use, sexual references, language.
Onto the premise: Follows London Clash, a movie star whose world is turned upside down when he must choose between pursuing his one true love and landing a life-changing, starring role in a major motion picture.
The opening scene starts with Becky G, Apple, portraying as a Tarot Card character, followed with a drone-shot accompanied by the song “AY!” Featuring rapper Wayne “Lil” Carter. of his sixth studio album “Mainstream Sellout”….
Baker’s narration throughout the movie was superb.
Our lead and director and writer, Colson Baker, receives a text message from his girlfriend, Apple, played by musician Becky G, that says “I wish I didn’t have to do this via text.” “Good Mourning”. From that moment on, we, the audience, get to go on this insane journey with our lead, London Clash, in a course of one day.
This movie took me down memory lane because Of Colson’s almost whole discography of albums and songs.
Baker introduces us to characters with the help of a voice over. In the search for London Clash to find his girlfriend, he begins by cleansing his soul with a space-hippy friend, musician GaTo, who I think is my spirit animal 😆
As they burn a bundle of sage to fill the room with good energy, they set a mushroom tapestry on fire, and who else walks in to save the day but MGK’s real-life fiancée Megan Fox brandishing a fire extinguisher. Honestly her look didn’t fit with me along with her role as roommate Kennedy.
There were some very cool shots such as the microwave shot in the beginning of the movie.
There were some very cool cameos such a ceramic Canadian Rappwr, who had a hit called “God’s Plan”!
“Good Mourning” was divided into parts which were very entertaining and artistic.
There were a lot of adult jokes and references and a lot of pop cultural stuff, which I really liked. The lines were too funny, especially That one joke with a police officer (not spoiler anything for anyone). involving Mod Sun.
Another thing I really liked about this m pie were the cool setting and twists and turns especially the ending!
I really liked the post credits scene, Colson did an amazing job with a certain accent!
The fact that Colson and most of the cast are friends in real life, does really shows in their on-screen-chemistry.
I honestly loved the bloopers, especially the ones with Pete, Mod, Colson and Megan Fox.
I really liked the Meme-ability that this movie had. Even tho it is a Comedy, Good Mourning did have some elements of Drama and Action. It is fast-paced but that’s a bonus for this movie. It did have some fourth wall breaking scenes, which were so much fun and gave me major Deadpool vibes.
Colson Baker and Derek Smith have put together a fantastic cast for “Good Mourning”, with cameos and comedians. London Clash’s girlfriend, Apple, is played by Becky G. Co-director and writer Mod Sun plays Clash’s friend, Dylan. Pete Davidson shows up as what appears to be Clash’s valet but has a prominent position on the movie poster.
Overall I really enjoyed this movie, couldn’t stop smiling and had cheeks aches because I had laughed too much! I will definitely re-watch it! therefore this movie was “worth a watch”!
Did you know? The entire script is based on a text message, which Colson Baker received from Megan Fox, which he misinterpreted! Back in 2020.
