A couple days ago I watched this reboot and relived my childhood all over agin! But I will talk about that shortly! I was so excited to watch this movie because it reminded me of my childhood. When I saw the trailer last year, I believe, this was the movies I was most anticipated about!
This movie was released on May 20th 2022. This movie starrs Andy Samberg, John Mulaney (Netflix’s “Big Mouth”), Kiki Layne, Will Arnett (2017’s The LEGO Batman Movie), Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect), just to name a few. This movie was directed by Akiva Schaffer (2014’s “The LEGO Movie) and written by Dan Gregor (2016’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”). This movie is an Animation/Adventure/Comedy/Family/Mystery. It has a runtime of 1h 37 minutes. It is rated PG for mild action and rude and suggestive humor.
Onto the premise: Thirty years after their popular television show ended, chipmunks Chip and Dale live very different lives. When a cast member from the original series mysteriously disappears, the pair must reunite to save their friend.
With all the noticeable jabs at the Hollywood trends, filmmaking as well as a huge amount of well known and loved characters from different studios, crossing over, it is a lot of fun and filled with serious nostalgia which I loved!
It’s even surprising that this movie exists in within the filmmaking landscape.
The best part of this movie is that it was impressively paced, funny, very heartfelt. A love letter to animation because this movie consists of so many different animation styles, including some very disturbing ones…
John’s voice acting reminded me so much of his role of Andrew in Netflix’s “Big Mouth” it was really hard for me to separate those two from another but that’s just me.
Aliva’s direction is excellent, the movie is definitely different from his previous movie (2014’s “The LEGO Movie”) but this movie can be very confusing and overwhelming for some people. As for Kiki , I personally really liked her and her she was energetic and was a great addition to this movie.
The visuals were consistently strong and the practical and CG blended so well , all together.
Forgot to mention that Seth Rogen played a plethora of characters but he was superb with his action as per usual.
I also really liked the plot of the movie involving Sweet Pete aka Peter Pan and what he was going through was so real to the adults rather to the children. Same goes out for the camouflaged meaning of a certain substance but portrayed as a certain type of cheese, very clever because there’s no way that a child could catch that and understand it’s reference.
Some parts even made me tear up here and there and I’m not a person who cries very easily.
Overall I really liked it despite its up and downs but you can’t compare this to “Roger Rabbit”. Even tho this movie can be very overwhelming and confusing to people but that really makes up at the end of Chip and Dale. This movie makes a lot of fun, in fact my cheeks were hurting from laughing. But go and watch this movie and tell me what you thought about it in the comments. Therefore it is “worth a watch”.
