Today, the new series by Marvel titled “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” was finally released on Disney Plus and here’s my review of episode one.
This series has nine episodes in its first season and was released on August 17th 2022.
This series is an Action/Adventure/Comedy/Drama/Sci-Fi and starrs Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Jameela Jamil (DC’s “Harley Quinn”) and Charlie Cox (Netflix’s “Daredevil”), just to name a few. This series was directed by Kat Coiro (Netflix’s “Marry Me”) and written by Anu Valia (Hulu’s “Love, Victor”).
Onto the premise: Jennifer Walters navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered Hulk.
the first bit of She-Hulk was fantastic. It’s the perfect end-of-summer, light hearted show for comic fans, MCU-fans, and general viewers alike.
if you’re expecting a serious, hardcore superhero show, you’re going to be thrown off. But, seeing as it hasn’t been marketed as that, I don’t see why that should be an issue.
Similar to “Loki” (2021), “She-Hulk” is another superhero series at heart disguised under the veil of a certain cliche TV genre.
Similar to “Loki” it works extremely well. Marvel has been criticized for their movies and TV Shows all feeling the same, but “She-Hulk” does a great job of exploring a different genre (legal comedy) while still sticking to its super hero theme.
The first episode may suffer a little from the fact that it feels very much like a first-episode-only-there-to-set-things-up effect, but that doesn’t usually affect the show in the long run and I wouldn’t expect “She-Hulk” to be dragged down by its first episode.
I’m trying to spoil as little as possible here, but in general, Marvel’s “She Hulk” is an intriguing and blissfully light hearted story that takes an otherwise overused and disposable narrative in smashing new directions. You’ll have a blast with this series.
In episode two, Jen is hired at a prestigious law firm but must practice as She-Hulk and rep a complicated client.
It seems ironic though that she hulk would take nonsense.of her boss though, why do we spend a certain amount of time at the beginning of the show stating Jen wont take rubbish of anybody, then bow down to an ahole of a boss….doesnt make sense – at all. Totally weird. Like the show runners should make up their minds , honestly!
episode two is a only 23 minutes long, with the main plot being… she gets hired somewhere…
This episode felt more like a cold open then it did an actual TV episode. When the credits started rolling for a second I genuinely thought it was the intro. This just isn’t good content, it is not well paced, well written, and to top it all off the CGI this episode is just hard to watch.
This whole episode is way beyond cringe. Until we get to the Emil Blonsky. The Prison is not the Raft which would have been a much better place to start the story but is 100% the same cell from Shang-Chi. Starks Department of Damage Control is heading up this facility even though the department wasnt formed until after the events of the Incredible Hulk. Why are marvel just destroying the 2 characters of the Hulk and Abomination to be just dumb thats the only way that i can describe what they’ve done. Their all just quivering wrecks Tim Roth should be understating dark who could snap at any moment.
Literally the whole things that happened in the episode is that she got fired because of the end of episode 1, got a new job and represents the Abomination. Well done wasting half and hour on this!
I was really disappointed with this one episode but I hope that the upcoming ones will be better!
Talk about a guest star, wow. Tim Roth was FANTASTIC!!! Some hilarious and brilliant 4th wall breaking moments, very self aware. This series reminds me a lot of old half hour comedies from the early/mid 90s, in the best way.
In episode three, She-Hulk represents Emil Blonsky aka The Abomination, but his parole hearing doesn’t go as planned.
I love the wink at the view 4th wall moments but it feels forced and just doesnt really add anything. The CGI in this episode was better than the previous episode. We finally got a cameo from a certain person, who you might’ve seen in a MCU-movie before doing magic tricks…..
The humour doesn’t always land and they have wasted tim Roth…
I loved the post-credits scene!!
I have to say, that this episode was written much better than the previous episode.
Overall it was a fun episode, much better than the previous episode.
In episode four, She-Hulk’s new client Wong is suing a magician for unauthorized use of the Mystic Arts.
I suppose this isn’t entirely how comicbook fans had pictured a She-Hulk show. We haven’t really gone in depth with about the legal details of these cases. That would be really cool, then all being related to something superhero themed.
It’s not bad though! I’ve laughed one very episode and I enjoy the lead immensely. The structure of the show seems to be very sitcom-y, even four episodes in. If the structure of this show is just going to be different cases and characters and guest appearances each episode, I’m cool with it. Not for everyone, but I think the show is pretty entertaining and doesn’t really do anything “too much” that it gets in the way of the plot.
It’ll be interesting to see if there’s some long-term arc going forward. I kind of assumed Titania would be a big boss lady but all she may be doing is suing Jennifer because of her She-Hulk pseudonym? We’ll see. Still, not a bad show, and not nearly as garbage as a lot of the reviews would lead you to believe. Anytime Wong is involved in a Marvel-project I get so excited because is just love this actor so much and him portraying Wong. Madysnn was a fun addition to the show, I had to laugh so much at her lines, like calling Wong, “Wongers”.
In episode five, She-Hulk discovers Titania owns the name “She -Hulk” and is suing her for trademark infringement.
I thought that this episode would be the daredevil episode but…. we only got a daredevil hint, a one- second scene and honestly can’t wait for the sixth episode, hopefully with daredevil in it!
There wasn’t even any action in this episode, and Titania as a character is just unbearable for me to watch. Her store sequence kinda reminded me of “Kylie Jenner and her stores”.
That final shot was the only good part of this episode, but it essentially confirms that the Netflix Daredevil series won’t be Canon to the MCU, which is really disappointing for me as I see it as being one of the best comicbook shows ever!
It did everything right, and this show needed to learn a thing or two from it. But I’m still watching “She-Hulk” because it just makes me laugh and the realness she is spitting during these episodes about us, women and what we have to deal with on a daily basis, is relatable to me, sadly.
“Daredevil” got the action down, the story and characters were incredible, and it did a really good job of the courtroom side of things.
I liked how Marvel-Merchandise-scene in the elevator. I’m still hopeful for the remaining episodes! Therefore talk to you next week!
In episode six, Jen is a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding, a stressful event compounded by uniquely She-Hulk issues.Y
Yet another Daredevil’less episode, I really liked the action sequences at the wedding ceremony. Nevertheless I’m still disappointed in this show..
Firstly, the humour in this episode just didn’t work. The main story involving the wedding was good, but the side story about “Mr. Immortal” was not needed.
None of the scenes, characters, and dialogue worked in this side story. They probably should’ve just dedicated the episode on “Just Jen” like the original title says. Also, the trend of random and in-cohesive things happening continued in this episode. I feel like only Episode 1 had a good flow to it, and the rest of the series has suffered from the lack of it.
One positive here, was the big tease towards ending, a good step towards a looming threat, nicely shifting to a slightly serious theme for this series. This has been teased well throughout the series, and is probably one of the few things that has been executed well.
The Only good thing about this episode was the Action scenes between She-Hulk and Titania!
This episode was just MEH in my opinion. I’m hopeful that we’ll be getting Daredevil next week, episode seven !
In episode seven Jen visits Blonsky’s wellness retreat, meets new friends and gets in touch with her inner She-Hulk.
Yet another Daredevil’less episode, I really liked the action sequences at the wedding ceremony. Nevertheless I’m still disappointed in this show. I’m still hopeful for the eight episode!
In episode eight, She-Hulk represents Leap-Frog who was injured due to a malfunction in his custom-made super suit.
WE finally GOT to See Daredevil and I couldn’t be happier! The way they introduced him. was in true daredevil fashion!
This episode was really everything and more I wanted it to be like I can even excuse the frog-guy plot!
This episode had some great action sequences and love story elements which I really liked.
In my opinion this episode was THEE best episode of the series and it was really worth the wait! I am kinda sad that next week’s episode will be the season finale of this MarVel show!
It’s the season finale and in episode nine, Jen finds herself in trouble with the law and struggles to pick up the pieces of her life.
Did you catch the “Black Panther” reference during a certain Marvel sequence?! I screamed when I heard that!
I really enjoyed the Marvel sequence and liked all the cameos, especially a certain golden devil…
This episode was everything and even more I wanted it to be! I’m more than pleased with the season finale.
I really enjoyed the 90s tv show opening scene, it brought me back to my childhood! I still hate Todd tho!
I really enjoyed the post credits scene and can’t wait to see more from that plot line!
Did you know? This is Marvel’s first full solo Hulk project. “The Incredible Hulk” (2008) was partly developed and distributed by Universal Studios. Up to this day, Marvel Studios still hasn’t received the distribution rights to a Hulk film from Universal.
This explains why a Hulk film featuring Mark Ruffalo could not be made despite Ruffalo taking the role in “The Avengers” (2012).
