Back with another A24 movie review! This time it’s their newest special project, “Funny Pages”. It was released on August 26th 2022. It is a Comedy movie but with a TWIST, which A24 is known for!
This movie starrs Daniel Zolghadri (2018’s “Ready Player One), Matthew Maher (2019’s “Captain Marvel”), Maria Dizzia (Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why”), Josh Pais (Hulu’s “The Dropout”), just to name a few.
This movie was rated R for Violence, Gore, Nudity and Sex.
Onto the premise: A bitingly funny coming-of-age story of a teenage cartoonist who rejects the comforts of his suburban life in a misguided quest for soul.
This movie, “Funny Pages” is a movie about repulsive losers.
Funny Pages never allows its inhabitants to be anything other than nauseating caricatures of their specific class.
This is prolly the first A24 movie which I didn’t like and was very disappointed with afterwards because there isn’t a bad performance in the movie, and this is especially true with Matthew Maher who is fantastic in his role.
This movie was rather slow at some times but it was still enjoyable hence the caricatures which were visually appealing. Therefore it was and okay movie but could’ve been so so so much more but wasn’t really used in its potential….
