Is Netflix’s “The Empress” worth a watch?

Today another item of my September Watchlist was released, Netflix’s “The Empress”.

This series has six episodes in its first season and starrs Hanna Hilsdorf (“We Children of Bahnhof Zoo”), Svenja Jung (Netflix’s “Dark”), Alexander Finkenwirth (Netflix’s “Buba”), Raymond Tarabay (“4 Blocks”), just to name a few.

This series was directed by Florian Cossen and Katrin Gebbe (“Tatort”).

Onto the premise: The 6 episodes will be shot in . – and will focus on the first months after Sisi’s arrival at the court. It is the great love story between Elisabeth and Franz that is the focus of the narrative. Elisabeth is told as a young woman ahead of her time, rebelling against the rigid rules of the 19th century and the court. She meets Franz, a multi-layered ruler with fractures who played a major role in shaping modern European history. Against the backdrop of jealousy, intrigue and power struggles behind the scenes of the Habsburg court and the emerging question of freedom of the people, the audience is taken into a glittering illusory world in which young Sisi must fight for her place at court as well as for the right not only to be the figurehead of an ailing empire. According to Netflix.

After watching all six episodes. I have to say that THIS series had amazing sets, costumes and details!

Good acting and casting.

Sisi has the looks and sas of Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss.

Loosely based on the history of Austria and Europe in ancient times.

I was blown away by the sets, they are breathtaking. The dresses are amazing matching with beautyfull Jewelry. I thought that no one could top the previous Sisi played by the legendary Romy Schneider but Devrim nailed it. With a mix between vulnerability and strength she plays the part perfectly!

The entire cast is excellent, they match amazing with their roles.

Must see show and looking forward to see more seasons!
