Is “One The Line” worth a watch?

This movie was another highly anticipated one for me ever since I saw its trailers and featurettes sometime back in October, this year!

This movie starrs thee legend Mel Gibson, William Moseley (“The Chronicles of Narnia”), Enrique Arce (Netflix’s “Money Heist”), Kevin Dillon (“Entourage”), just to name a few.

This movie was directed by Romuald Boulanger.

This movie is a Thriller and was released on November 4th 2022. It’s rated R for violence and language.

Onto the premise: A host takes a call, where an unknown person threatens to kill the showman’s entire family on air. To save loved ones, the radio host will have to play a survival game and the only way to win is to find out the identity of the criminal.

Honestly this movie really reminded me of Netflix’s “The Guilty” starring Jake Gyllenhaal because of the same concept and the amount of suspense and thrills I got from watching both movies.

I know that most people are going to hate the twist. But I loved it!

Much like with the new Halloween movie, many people no longer want to be surprised. They want to go into a movie and have their expectations met, mean to each it’s own but I did really enjoy the roller coaster ride that this movie was for me!

The twist here completely changes the entire experience.

However… if you’ve been paying attention to the theme, that’s precisely what the movie is about. It’s about taking humor too far, about the nature of shock humor, its risks and its acceptability in society.

That’s what makes the ending brilliant. It’s a love letter to shock humor, an art form about to go extinct in the ever more oppressive muck of sensitivity.

I liked the message a lot.

The movie itself has its shortcomings, with characters making dumb decisions, some of the writing is bad but still Mel Gibson gives a great peformance.

On a technical level, photography and color grading are good, which is rare in low budget films. It won’t give you eye cancer like various newer Liam Neeson or Bruce Willis films. No nasty shaky cam or unnatural color palettes.

Keep an open mind, and you may enjoy this.
