Is “Poker Face” worth a watch?

This movie was another highly anticipated one for me ever since I saw its trailers and featurettes sometime back in October, this year!

This movie starrs Liam Hemsworth, thee legend Russell Crowe, Elsa Pataky (“Thor: Love and Thunder”), Heidi Garrow (“Call Jane”), Molly Grace (“To All The Boys:Always and Forever”), just to name a few.

This movie was directed and written by Russell Crowe.

This movie was released on November 16th 2022. It was rated R for violence and language.

This movie is an Action/Crime/Thriller.

Onto the premise: Tech billionaire and gambler Jake Foley (Crowe) hosts a high-stakes poker game between childhood friends, offering them the chance to win more money than they’ve ever dreamed of. The evening takes a turn when he unveils his elaborate plan seeking revenge for their betrayals and to play, they’ll have to give up the one thing they’ve spent their lives trying to keep…their secrets. As the game unfolds, thieves break in and they must band together to survive a night of terror.

Russell Crowe’s acting near the start was pretty good, and left me intrigued.

The pacing is fine. The scenes flow pretty well without being abrupt.

Some of the baddies acting is seriously over the top though, The plot is rather obvious and has been used to better effect in other movies in my opinion.

Some characters were totally a waste of screenplay to the story, and since Crowe directed it, I wondered if there had been some nepotism? The conclusion is also fine, and even brought a tear to my eye…

I wasn’t expecting this movie to be a philosophical one, thanks to Crowe’s directing and screenplay.

Overall, it was much better than a lot of Sky productions. Easily passes an afternoon effortlessly.

I loved loved Russell Crowe’s narration in the first act of the movie! He has such a soothing voice similar to Morgan Freeman’s.
