Is Apple TV Plus’ “Spirited” worth a watch?

This movie was another highly anticipated one for me.

This movie starrs Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, Octavia Spencer, Patrick Page (“In The Heights”), Tracy Morgan (“Coming 2 America”),

This movie was directed by Sean Anders (“Dumb and Dumber two”).

This movie was released on November 18th 2022 on Apple TV Plus. It was rated PG-13 for language, suggestive material, thematic elements.

This movie is a Comedy/Family/Musical.

Onto the premise: A musical version of the classic Christmas story by Charles Dickens. A miserly man who treats everyone around him with terrible selfishness finds himself on a fantastical adventure into the three phases of time: past, present, and future, in order to discover how he ended up so miserable and alone.

I don’t like musicals. So clearly I’m not the target audience, but I still did enjoy it.

Pretty upbeat just like any other Christmas movie. It’s really starts out as a kid’s movie, but still has some ‘dirty’ jokes as it goes on. It’s way longer than the plot was with all the singing. It got a couple good laughs; at times felt more of a comedy than musical. A good blend of Reynolds and Farrells humor, if you’re a fan of either you might enjoy it.

Actually there were longer periods between the songs, and other moments when songs are squeezed together, mostly at the beginning of the movie and at the end. So there actually wasn’t as much singing, you almost forget it’s a musical in the middle.

I think the camerawork was and the production scene felt like it was set up on stage so it felt like a theatre play.

The story is pretty predictable on how it’s going to end, it’s just the journey of getting there. My favorite parts were when the singing was abruptly cut, singing aside its a great movie.

Overall I really enjoyed this movie and so so so much fun while watching it. I really felt great while watching it! It’s such a feel good movie and has the potential to become a comfort movie for many people. It was definitely “worth a watch”!
