Today is the day! I’ve been waiting for this series to be released! This series is one of my highlights of this year ever since I saw it’s trailer sometime this year! I talked about it in my recaps of “GeekedWeek” back in June and “Tudum” back in September!
This series is a Spinn-off to the “Adam’s Family”-Franchise.
This series starrs Jenna Ortega (“X”), Gwendoline Christie (Netflix’s “The Sandman”), Christina Ricci (“Rick and Morty”), Oliver Watson (Netflix’s “The School For Good and Evil”), just to name a few.
This series was directed by thee legend Tim Burton.
This series was released on November 23rd 2022. It is a Comedy/Crime/Family/Fantasy/Mystery.
This Netflix seems has eight episodes in its first season. All episodes were released on November 23rd 2022.
Onto the premise: A sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago – all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore. According to Netflix.
In the first episode, When a deliciously wicked prank gets Wednesday expelled, her parents ship her off to Nevermore Academy, the boarding school where they fell in love.
In episode two, The sheriff questions Wednesday about the night’s strange happenings. Later, Wednesday faces off against a fierce rival in the cutthroat Poe Cup race.
In episode three, Wednesday stumbles on a secret society. During Outreach Day, Nevermore’s outcasts mingle with Jericho’s normies in Pilgrim World. Fudge, anyone?
In episode four, Wednesday asks Xavier to the Rave’N dance, sparking Tyler’s jealousy – but Thing’s got something up his sleeve. Meanwhile, Eugene stakes out the cave.
In episode five, During Parents Weekend, Wednesday digs into her family’s past – and accidentally gets her dad arrested. Enid feels the pressure to “wolf out.”
In episode six, Wednesday’s friends throw her a surprise birthday party. They mean well – but she’d much rather mark the miserable occasion by solving the murders.
In episode seven, Kooky Uncle Fester pays a visit and shares his theory about the monster. Wednesday begrudgingly agrees to a date with Tyler at Crackstone’s crypt.
In episode eight and the season finale, Wednesday lands in trouble with Principal Weems, but that’s just the start of her problems. To fight an ancient evil, she’ll need all her friends’ help.
The show is called WEDNESDAY for a reason – it’s the adventures of Wednesday as she navigates unfamiliar territory. It’s a character study with some appearances of the rest of the family. If you are expecting a straight reboot of the 60s sitcom, you’ll be disappointed. However, the show seems lovely and Jenna Ortega and Christie are excellent, there are some wonderful recurring and guest stars and one very delightful blast from the past on the cast.
I think you need to give the series time to develop and remember that it’s target audience is quite wide, I don’t think it’s meant to be too dark. Just like the 90s movies it plays on the dark and morbid humour, but with the teen angst mixed in.
Tim Burton and The Addams Family are two universes that fit so well together.
The whole vibes of this show were just amazing, keeping the whole Addams Family style but also making us discover a whole new original scenario, with the Nevermore Adademy.
I can’t praise Jenna Ortega’s performance in this enough! She was MADE for this role, speaking of actors, I feel the need to remind you that Gomez is inspired from the first original cartoons by Charles Addams, not the Gomez you’re used to), having Christina Ricci in this show was also a very nice idea!!
Overall I really enjoyed this series! It was even better than I thought it would be! I love love love Wednesday, she’s my favorite character in the entire franchise. All the teasing we got from Netflix was SO worth waiting for! This series was definitely worth a watch! It’s everything I wanted and so much more to be! The cast, especially Jenna were and was amazing in their roles. I loved the score thorough out the series and the atmosphere it created and the color-grading overall! I love the intro of this show so much!
