Is Apple TV Plus’ “Emancipation” worth a watch?

This movie was another highly anticipated one for me ever since I saw its trailers and featurettes sometime back in October, this year!

This movie starrs Will Smith, Ben Foster (Netflix’s “Hustle”), Dan Matteucci (“Yellowstone”), Melissa Lehman (“Interview With The Vampire”on AMC+),Donald Paul (“Bull”), Dave Davis (“The Rookie”),Walker Babington (“Interview With The Vampire” on AMC+), just to name a few.

This movie was directed by Antoine Fuqua (“The Terminal List”).

This movie was released on December 9th 2022 on Apple TV Plus. It was rated R for racial violence, violence, disturbing imagery and language.

This movie is an Action/Thriller.

Onto the premise: A runaway slave forges through the swamps of Louisiana on a tortuous journey to escape plantation owners that nearly killed him.

I can’t stop thinking about the idea of how far this movie could have gone if not for…

Don’t get me wrong, It’s a good movie with an emotional plot sometimes too difficult to watch scenes.

Will Smith is such an amazing actor.

Based on a true story of a slave, turned buffalo soldier whose image of his back is possibly one of the earliest times a picture was used to spread a campaign to a mass amount of people, the movie is shown like a blockbuster about slavery.

It seems to be a strange way to fit the blockbuster movie genre. You unfortunately barely would know if anyone else was in the movie as the camera focus on Will the whole time.

While Ben Foster as the evil white Master was haunting enough, the only other true star in the picture was director Antone Foqua who made a movie so visually stunning with what seem like so little. His camera angles and the beautiful scenery was amazingly done!

Overall I really enjoyed this movie even tho it was very difficult to watch at times.

Therefore be cautious while watching this movie!

Emancipation was a hit with Will Smith so dynamically that it was obvious that he was going out for an Oscar that he surely won’t get, which is too bad cause if he got one for King Richard, his performance here was even better.

I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who loves a historical masterpiece, and to people who are open to watching something new.
