Another watchlist item was released today, I was and am so excited to watch this one since it’s a book adaptation! This series is a Drama/Fantasy/Horror.
This series marks the second installment of AMC’s “Immortal Universe” which started with “Interview With The Vampire” series last year.
This series has eight episodes in its first season. It was released on January 8th 2023.
It starrs Alexandra Daddario (“The White Lotus”), Jack Huston (“House Of Gucci”), Harry Hamlin (“The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills”), Beth Grant (“Amsterdam”), just to name a few.
This series was directed by Michael Uppendahl (“Candy”).
Onto the premise: Follows a neurosurgeon who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. She must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.
In Episode one, Rowan’s supernatural gift turns into a horrifying burden. In New Orleans, teenaged Deirdre rebels.
In Episode two, Wracked with grief over Ellie’s death, Rowan is out of control and unfit to perform surgeries. In New Orleans, Deirdre and her mysterious companion Lasher work together to draw Rowan home.
In Episode Three, In the aftermath of Deirdre’s grisly death, Rowan searches for safety in a strange city; Sip provides Rowan with a safe house while he investigates Deirdre’s murder; Lasher makes contact with Rowan but not in the way one might expect.
In episode Four, At Deirdre’s funeral, Rowan is plunged into the world of the infamous Mayfair family; Uncle Cortland and Aunt Carlotta present diverging views on Lasher; Rowan must choose whom to trust and face the dire consequences; Sip identifies Deirdre’s killer.
In episode five, Trapped in the First Street House, Rowan and Sip must confront its many mysteries in order to escape; Rowan grapples with an inconceivable offer; Sip’s sister Odette makes a horrifying discovery.
In episode six, Desperate to relinquish Lasher, Rowan reaches out to her extended Mayfair family for help; Rowan must trust their unique process, a sacred ritual; Sip’s search for answers takes him back to the Talamasca.
In episode seven, Rowan makes a shocking discovery but has to deal with it alone; a tragic event brings Rowan closer to the Mayfairs — and Lasher; Sip falls deeper down the rabbit hole of the key necklace.
In episode eight, the season finale, Rowan inadvertently discovers her role in a prophecy that’s held the Mayfair family for generations; Sip’s investigation reaches its conclusion, uncovering secrets that could tarnish both Rowan’s family and his role in the Talamasca.
this is one of the more stronger episodes of the season, the Rowan side of the story is far stronger than Ciprien and the being stuck in a memory, those things shouldn’t go over an episode as there is only so much you can do with it before it just gets boring in my opinion.
The rescue mission is really good and I do think that Rowan has made a decision and finally got off the fence of the path she is going to follow because for so long she says no I don’t want any of it but yet lurks about the family, either go or stay, which was also the families attitude when she showed up at the house again, BUT I think they should cut her slack because again nobody just lays out exactly what happened her and what she is going through so she can make an actual decision on her life.
Regardless I think this is a good episode and I hope the finale is better !
So far I am liking the story but honestly this all feels like it could have been covered in 2-3 episodes. It is really taking its time getting to where it wants to go.
I knew that Rowan’s aunt was bad news and we found out why!
I am sick to death that nobody can just tell her something on the spot, it’s always, contact me again or see me when you are ready, and she just accepts all that, she should be asking questions and if she’s getting no answers move on to the next person.
I’m curious to know how it will unfold in tbe next episode!
I thoroughly enjoyed being immersed into the beauty of New Orleans and seeing Anne’s gorgeous home presented in this series as the Mayfair home. I found the twists quite intriguing.
I look forward to the rest of the season and hope fans enjoy the show by having an open mind when viewing.
Looking forward to to seeing more of Rowan and Lasher in the series.
The production value is high, with fantastic special effects and amazing costumes. The series also features a great soundtrack that adds to the eerie and atmospheric tone of the series.
Overall, I really liked this episode and can’t wait to watch more of it!
I’m getting to like this, the episode is definitely moving at a nicer pace than the last, we seem to really be getting into the thick of it now.
With every question answered a new question appears, Rowen is definitely on a path that I believe will take her to some scary and dark places.
The moms side of the story was what interested me the most about this episode and the last 20ish minutes were definitely my favourite with a lot going on !
I have absolutely no idea where the show is going and with the ending of this episode my jaw was on the floor and just proved I can’t predict anything !
I’m a fan of the first series of the “Immortal Universe” , titled “Interview With The Vampire”.
Anne Rice did write the story based on the inheritance of a line of women within the family.
Let me move on to Lasher, if memory serves me, Lasher in the books is portrayed as being a man of such beauty that he is irresistable to both men and women, he is beautiful and compelling and mischevious and smart – regrettably this seems to be another case of miscasting…. i’m sure this actor is also adequate.
You can’t take a book as complex as The Witching Hour, and the characters as developed as Rowan and Michael, and the rest of the Mayfair family, and use them as a vehicle for feminism and mediocre writing and lazy story telling.
This show looks interesting and I can’t wait to watch more of it this Sunday!
Stay tuned for more reviews!
