Happy May! I finally had the time to watch Paramount’s “Dungeons & Dragons”, a game adaptation and game I grew up playing.
This movie Starr Chris Pine (“Don’t Worry Darling”), Michelle Rodriguez (“Fast X”), Regé-Jean Page (“Bridgeton”), Justice Smith (Apple Tv Plus’ “Sharper”), Hugh Grant (“Operation Fortune”), Chloe Coleman (“GunPower Milkshake”), just to name a few.
This movie was directed by John Francis Daley (“Game Night”).
This movie was released on March 30th 2023. It was rated PG-13.
This movie is an Action/Adventure/Fantasy/Comedy.
Onto the premise: A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves: is so much fun!
Chris Pine is okay as an ex-Harper and present thief , but a good hearted one. Michelle Rodriguez is much more convincing as Holga Kilgore, a barbarian warrior who would put My favourite member of Pine’s posse is Sophia Lillis as Doric, a shape-shifter who can turn into an owlbear as well as other creatures A richly imagined fantasy world with quests, battles and magic replacing science.
Hugh Grant has a supporting role as a conman who always has a plan to make his schemes even more devious, ,he is hilarious; Armies of the undead and talking corpses are actually amusing.
I loved this heist/quest adventure which has great effects. It’s visually appealing!
Dungeons & Dragons is an absolute blast! I highly recommend seeing this if you haven’t already.
The storyline is fantastic, and the action is amazing.
The cast is great, and some of the turns that you didn’t expect makes the movie better.
The humor in this is balanced on a perfect level between serious and humorous.
Speaking of humor, every joke in this movie hits hard! This can definitely get a laugh out of you.
Some of the references in this movie definitely nod into the lore throughout it.
I’ve played Dungeon and Dragons a few times from the board games
I wouldn’t call myself a diehard fan though still love the universe.
Right from the opening scene to the closing scene I found myself engaged and entertained. I didn’t want it to end!
Did you know?
Chris Pine agreed to appear because the role of Edgin is very atypical for a fantasy-film leading man and because he sat in on his nephew playing a D&D campaign and saw how much fun he and his friends were having.
The movie is set in the Forgotten Realms.
In the movie, druid Doric repeatedly turns into an Owlbear, which appears to be her favorite shape for fighting. According to the current official rules of the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop game, a druid can not turn into an Owlbear. A druid can in fact only turn into a Beast (and eventually an Elemental), but the Owlbear is classified among the “Monstrosities” and a druid character can not take the shape of those particular creatures.
The fourth Dungeons and Dragons film and also a reboot.
Chris McKay was in negotiations to direct, but left to direct The Tomorrow War (2021).
Overall I really enjoyed this movie!
Stay tuned for more reviews!
