Hello, long time no read 😉
As a huge “Fast And Furious” fan, I was very excited about this installment!
I watched it yesterday, May 22nd, and here’s whether I liked it or not!
This movie starrs Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Ludacris, John Cena, Sung Kang (“Power”), Brie Larson (“Captain Marvel”), Jason Momoa (“Aquaman”), Scott Eastwood, Alan Ritchson (“Reacher”), Luis Da Silva Jr. (“One Way”), Pete Davidson (“Bupkis”), Meadow Walker, late Paul Walker’s daughter, Debby Ryan, Dan Matteucci (“The Sandman”), just to name a few.
This movie was directed by Justin Lin (“Fast and Furious: Tokio Drift”).
This movie was released on May 19th 2023.
This movie is an Action/Adventure/Crime/Mystery/Thriller.
This movie was rated PG-13 for violence, action, language, and sex and nudity.
Onto the plot: Dom Toretto and his family are targeted by the vengeful son of drug kingpin Hernan Reyes.
The movie was first said to be the first part of the series’ two-part finale, but Vin Diesel has subsequently suggested that the finale could be a trilogy. It’s not yet confirmed which direction the franchise will go next.
Jason Momoa was amazing as the FFU’s Joker villain!
Loved the Pete Davidson cameo and other cameos!
Screamed when I saw the first post credits scene!
Overall I really really enjoyed this movie even tho some CGI-effects were nooooot the best!
Jason Momoa as the bad guy is worth mentioning as being terrific. He looked like he had a lot of fun with the role. It seemed like he was given a lot of leeway to do as he pleased and he used it wisely. He actually gave me a lot of ‘Joker’ vibes.
There are two post credits scenes.
If you haven’t seen the fifth installment you won’t be able to connect the dots in this installment. So before watching this installment, please watch that movie first!
The movie is long at 2 hours and 21 minutes, but it’s a rare time when I felt the movie could absolutely justify it. For one thing the pacing is incredible and time really does fly by. For another thing there is so much going on and so many cast members who need time to do their thing that it was absolutely necessary. Actually the fact they were able to cut the run time down to only this was an accomplishment.
The action scenes and the story are as outrageous as we have come to expect from this series. It’s at the point now where you simply have to sit back, switch your mind off and enjoy the ride. And to be honest, I had a great time.
The Fast & Furious franchise is one that I have been following since the first movie back in 2001. I always give this franchise the benefit of the doubt. I have at least liked all of the movies, even loved a couple of them, that was until F9 in 2021. It has now become a thing to expect that these movies will try and outdo the previous installment in terms of insanity, but F9 truly felt like they took everything all the fans had been joking about and just did it all. It went beyond ridiculous to even enjoy. Thankfully, now that Fast X has hit theatres and I had the chance to check it out, it has put the franchise back on track for me, even if it is still almost too ridiculous (stupid might actually be a better word, but in a good way).
Directly connected to the events of Fast Five, Fast X picks up ten years later, as the emergence of Dante (Jason Momoa) begins. He is the son of the man they robbed and killed in Fast Five, so obviously he wants revenge. It’s actually pretty seamless how they tie it all into that film, reusing old footage and adding new. My only issue with this storyline is that it took ten years for Dante to actually seek the revenge he wanted. Sure, let’s just roll with it because if you don’t, you’ll probably hate the rest of this film too. People have come to expect the ridiculous here, as I said, so as long as that’s what you go into this film looking for, you may just be as satisfied as I was.
The bombastic action sequences are once again dialled up to a million, but it was nice to see an actual race sequence, even though it felt a little short. Jason Momoa. His performance here may just be my favourite of everything.
I should also mention that you shouldn’t be expecting a completed story. Fast X is clearly the start of a bigger storyline to come, as the film ends abruptly.
Almost in an Avengers: Infinity War style, I really want to see what comes next. There are quite a few promises in this film that excite me, so I’ll remain optimistic for an awesome conclusion.
There are some big surprises throughout the film, but I’m still not sure how I feel about one of them in particular.
Look, I had a great time watching this stupid film with characters I’ve grown to love, so sue me for reviewing it positively. It has fully embraced everything anyone has ever said about this franchise, so at this point, you should know what you’re getting yourself into. If you like these movies and are up to date, I say check it out. I had a blast.
