Is “Netflix’s “One Piece” worth a watch?

Long time no see!

Today’s the day we’ve all been waiting for!

The live-action version of the beloved Manga “One Piece” has been released on Netflix!

I grew up with watching this Manga and ever since Netflix announced during their Tuddum Event back in 2022!

The live action version of “One Piece” has eight episodes in its first season!

This series was released today, August 31st 2023 with those eight episodes on Netflix!

This series starrs Iñaki Godoy (Netflix’s “The Imperfects”) as our lead Luffy. Emily Rudd (“Dynasty”) starrs as Nami. Mackenyu (“The King Of The Zodica”) starrs as Zoro. Morgan Davies (“Evil Dead Rise”) starrs as Koby. Just to name a few.

This series was directed by Marc Jobst (“The Witcher”). Tim Southam (American Gods). Emma Sullivan (Doctor Who). Josef Kubota Wladyka (Narcos).

This series was rated Tv-14. It is an Adventure/Action/Fantasy/Comedy.

Onto the premise: An alternate version of Earth, and one that is currently in the midst of the ‘Golden Age of Pirates’. Ruthless cut-throat pirates rule the seas, and only the strongest have the chance to lay claim to the mythical treasure known as ‘One Piece’ that was left behind by the greatest pirate of them all Gold Roger. Years after the death of Gold Roger, a young boy by the name of Monkey D. Luffy has dreams of raising his own crew, finding One Piece, and declaring himself as Pirate King. After eating a devil fruit that grants Luffy the power to make his body like rubber, it gives him enormous strength and agility. When Luffy finally comes of age, he sets sail from Foosha Village in East Blue and sets upon his grand adventure to become the next Pirate King.

In Episode one: A boy named Monkey D. Luffy embarks on a journey to attain the greatest treasure: the one piece. After the former pirate king’s public execution 22 years ago, the world has entered a great pirate era, and Luffy aims to be at the top.

In Episode two: Luffy, Zoro, and Nami find themselves imprisoned on an island overtaken by the deranged clown pirate, Buggy. Koby joins the Marines and proves his mettle.

In Episode Three: Luffy, Zoro, and Nami land in Syrup Village, where they meet Usopp, a local who introduced the group to Kaya, a sickly shipyard heiress under the care of trio of overbearing house staff. With the help of Koby, Vice Admiral Garp, a powerful marine, sets off in search of Luffy.

In Episode Four: Luffy, Zoro, and Nami fight their way through Kaya’s mansion, which has now become a prison. Usopp enlists the help of Koby, Helmeppo, and the Marines. Luffy finally gets the ship of his dreams as Garp closes in.

In Episode five: Luffy and the gang are tested in their ability to fight together on the high seas. They arrive at Baratie, a floating restaurant, where they encounter Sanji, a young chef with a love of fine dining. A duel on the docks shocks the group.

In Episode six: The group is ambushed by a threat no one sees coming. After a hard-fought battle at the Baratie, Sanji finally follows his dreams while another crew member shows their true colors.

In Episode Seven: The crew comes to the aid of a member in dire need of a family.

In Episode eight, the season finale: A new pirate crew is born.

As someone who knows the source material of the anime, I really enjoyed this one, even if they made a few changes here and there.

Can’t wait to watch season 2!

This one was my highlight and definitely worth a watch!
